Flywheel Assembly

Flywheel is a heavy cast iron inertia disk which stores the energy for the unpowered stroke to lead to the uniformity of the whole crankshaft rotation and output torque rotation. It can overcome the compression resistance and keep the continuous operation of the engine during short-term overload by the rotation inertia force. In order to get higher rotation inertia, its outer margin is made thicker. The flywheel single cylinder engine should be made larger because only one stroke will work among the four strokes, so the flywheel with higher rotation inertia is needed to even the speed. The flywheel of the multi-cylinder engine is commonly small since its rotation is even. In other word, the flywheel of the multi-cylinder engine can help keep the rotation inertia. Like the rectilinear motion of the object, the higher the weight is, the larger the inertia is. The movement speed will be changed evenly only by the external force and the impact will not happen.

Flywheel of the multi-cylinder engine should operate with the crankshaft and if not, the centrifugal force produced by quality unevenness will lead to engine vibration and fasten the abrasion of the engine. In order to keep its equilibrium during the dismounting, the strict relative position between the flywheel and crankshaft is required by using the locating stud or asymmetrical bolt. The commonly damages of the flywheel include gear ring abrasion, head ablation, deflection and screw abrasion.
